UNDP/ELECT is the primary vehicle through which the international community supports elections in Afghanistan. Working closely with electoral bodies such as the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan, UNDP/ELECT provides project and program design and management, mobilization of donor funding, activity coordination, the channeling of funds for electoral support, and reporting.
28 January 2010 - Elections in Afghanistan formed part of the discussions during the London Conference, resulting in the following statement: "Conference Participants welcomed the Government of Afghanistan’s commitment to ensuring the integrity of the 2010 Parliamentary elections and to preventing any irregularities and misconduct. Conference Participants also welcomed the Government of Afghanistan’s commitment to work closely with the UN to build on the lessons learned from the 2009 elections to deliver improvements to the electoral process in 2010 and beyond."
